Her first novel, Walking Rain, was chosen by The Purloined Letter as the best paperback original mystery of 1996 and nominated for an Edgar Award by the Mystery Writers of America. She is finishing her second suspense novel. She lives in Austin, Texas.

Wade admits that as a child she imprinted on Hans Christian Andersen’s stories—she thinks it may be because they’re such a blend of sweet fantasy and a bleak view of human cruelties. Of “Ivory Bones,” she says, “The first two lines of this story just came to me, and I knew it was ‘Thumbelina.’ I loved the image of the pearlized bones and the menace of the voice.”
